We are proud to officially announce Texas Linux Fest 2016, scheduled for July 8 and 9 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
2016 marks seven years of Texas Linux Fest, the annual Linux and open source software event for Texas and the surrounding region. We are assembling a one day general session program for businesses and home Linux users, newcomers and experienced pros alike. We will also hold a full day of vendor-led training sessions provided by our sponsors.
In that spirit, we invite you to share your interests and you work with the rest of the community by submitting your session for this year's program. The deadline for proposals is May 10, 2016 at 11:59pm CST.
Texas Linux Fest 2016 will include, for the first time, a special kernel and operating systems research track. If you are a researcher working on Linux at your university or employer, you are invited to submit a session proposal presenting your work. Topics of particular interest include:
But all proposals, regardless of the specific research area, are welcome.
We are also reaching out to potential speakers with experience in digital privacy, anonymity, and security. If you work on a project that safeguards online communication, publishing, activism, or privacy, please get in touch! Likewise, if you have a personal story of how open source encryption or security software enables you to work online, please consider submitting a session proposal.
Beyond these two special-focus areas, we want to hear all proposals related to Linux, free software, and open source. Tell us what you are passionate about!
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
Session slots are 45 minutes in length. However, if you have a strong case for presenting a double-length presentation or workshop, please
let us know in the "special arrangements" section. We cannot guarantee availability, so be prepared to discuss your plan.
Basic technical setup will include an overhead projector and a Linux laptop with PDF and LibreOffice presentation software. Special setup needs will be
accommodated; simply let us know in the "special arrangements" section.
